I hear you on the risk, but it seems like given the DBacks situation, they can afford to roll the dice a bit. If Duke or Sheets pan out, that means they'll potentially have 3 of the best SP's in the NL, which could also mean that they're making a run at the division title. If they pan out and the team still isn't doing great, you can flip them for promising prospects. And it's not likely that either will demand a long-term contract.

Duke and Sheets have a lot of upside, but they both have lots of risk. I'm afraid the D'backs will spend their money on a healthy, mediocre pitcher rather than on a risky, but better one.

I think Sheets can be good when healthy, and I don't trust Penny still. His time with the Red Sox and Dodgers showed that he is not as good as he once was. Marquis would be okay for the D'backs.

I'm afraid they won't go for one of the top guys, like Wolf, Lackey, or Harden. I think guys like Marquis or Penny are more likely. I'd also like them to take a chance on Ben Sheets.

Who do you think is the best pitcher in the D'Backs price range? Do you think they'll go after a top of the rotation guy (Harden, Lackey) or someone in the middle like Piniero?
